truckin
maybe jerry's finest guitar ever. in fact I've never heard better from any other guitarist-including Clapton, Hendrix or allman. they don't even come close. and behind bobby's vocals is beyond sublime. please listen asap and write a review. the pinnacle of greatness.

What a great show!
If you were there you remember the in between sets act; the bed of nails guys. Three guys with the full on turbans, little vests, pantaloons and curly slippers came out with a bed of nails. One guy lies down on the bed, another guy places a cinder block on his stomach and yes, the third guy has a sledge hammer. Everybody is tripping. The guy hits the block with the sledge hammer, the block breaks in two and the guy on the bed stands up...TA DAAAA! Everybody goes nuts! WOW! addition.....listening to this 48 years after I was there, I feel blessed to have this as my first show, missed Pigpen, but..what a band...simply stunning. I love the Grateful Dead.

NFA>GDTRFB
The Not Fade Away into GDTRFB is my highlight for this show, Jerry just shreds all of NFA, and Goin Down is just as hot as ever... It's a must check out. This is a pure Jerry night, just playing great.

Oh...My...
This Truckin>Dark Star>Comes a Time is without a doubt one of the most powerful sequences I have heard in 1972 and is one of my new all time favorite jams.
The Truckin' is unique, the Comes a Time is beautiful as they come (don't even mind the AUD sound) but the Dark Star is absolutely transcendental. Don't want to go overboard, but this is possibly my new favorite of the year. One word: Garcia. His playing is just an unstoppable force of nature on this Dark Star, definitely one of his very best moments!!
Anyways, while the Dark Star is the best part of the show, this is still a classic all around; Excellent Sing Me Back Home, and the NFA>GDTRFB to close is very solid. Please don't miss out on this show!!!

My first show
Figured what better time to say something about this fantastic show than on the actual anniversary. I don't have much to add to what others have already said - China Cat/ Know you Rider, Playin' In The Band, Truckin'/Dark Star were of course the highlights for me, but every song was great. What an amazing experience for my first show!

Vanilla Fudge-Flower...
I love this China Cat Sunflower: taken at such a slow pace it starts sounding like some ponderous Heavy Metal...on a good way. Check it ouuuttt...
This show has above average sound, except for the aforementioned static, btw. You can even hear Bobby and Phil complain abt it at one point, so it's not you...

classic show
I've always had a special love for this Dark Star. It feels so tight and organized, like a condensed distillation of all the exploration they had done in Europe, packed into a super-tight energy ball. Definitely one of my top 10 Stars.
This was the beginning of the era of huge stadium shows -- I believe this was the biggest crowd the Dead had played to that point. And they lived up to it -- they destroyed the place.
Unfortunately, this recording has some problems... the tape is old and warbly and there's some glitchy issues. Don't let that stop you from checking out this great show, but IMHO, the crown jewel of Roosevelt Stadium shows is 8/1/73.
Listen to these Roosevelt Dark Stars, and hear a year of musical evolution... the musical peak of the Dead's explorations in spontaneous group consciousness.

My favorite Star!
Truckin > Dark Star > Comes a Time is ridiculous!
The Truck is definitely in 4th gear as Jerry brings it down with some SERIOUS noodle, and out of the peace comes a burning Dark Star! The best pre-verses jamming of any Star and a great, but unfortunately AUD Comes a Time!
Sound: B+
Show: A

jersey city magic
This was the first time they played Jersey city (which is less then a mile from my home)and they loved it so much they played 3 sets which was unheard of at that time.In fact they came back to play the stadium on July 19th and the famous Stanley theater run a week
later.although Pigpen was sorely missedas this was the first time in the nyc area without him the show crackled all
thru.little did we know in the crowd that BOB Dylan was back stage and this was the first time he met
Garcia.must have

4 stars
the grateful dead came to town for my 2nd birthday and they kicked ass!
my mom wouldn't let me go so I didn't attend this show, even though it was right down the street!
This recording sounds damn good until you hit the aud patches, then you gotta turn the stereo down a little, and adjust the e-q.
If this was a complete sbd I would give it 5 stars, but since it's a little chopped up and missing the encore I gotta give it 4
